(Bloomberg) -- While White House chief strategist Steve Bannon has advocated blocking the Time Warner/AT&T deal, he hasn’t mentioned the idea in recent days and it doesn’t appear to be at the top of his agenda, Politico said late July 6, citing an unidentified White House official.
- If the administration was to intervene in the deal it would be characterized as opposition to business monopolies, not a war on the media, White House official told Politico
- Sen. Ron Wyden (D- Ore.) told Politico that potentially using news coverage to try to block the deal would be illegal and “flies in the face of the First Amendment;” Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) said Trump’s “war against the media must not influence the fate of this transaction”
