EU Parl. Committees Reject EU Commission’s Money Laundering List

(Bloomberg) -- European Parliament’s Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee and the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs rejected a blacklist of countries with possible links to money laundering and financing of terrorism, which has been drawn up by the EU Commission, according to an e-mailed statement on Thursday.
  • MEPs of the committees believe blacklist is too restrictive, voted for resolution to send it back to the Commission for revision
    • Lawmakers said draft list fails to include jurisdictions which may be involved in tax crimes
  • Resolution will be put to a full plenary vote in Jan. and Parliament must now decide either to support or reject the motion
