FOMC’s No. 1 Priority Is Getting Policy, Not Dots, Right: FTN

(Bloomberg) -- “Lack of surprises” in FOMC’s statement shows policy makers are in no hurry to hike again and policy makers’ top priority is “getting policy right,” not validating their forecasts, FTN economist Chris Low writes in note.
  • Would make sense for Fed to hike in March if it needed to validate expectations for three rate increases this year
    • However, data neither supports another move yet nor a strong signal about the next meeting
  • Lack of dissents from FOMC members may reflect satisfaction that the fed funds rate is “in the right place” or new rotation of FOMC’s members
