Negative-Yielding Sovereign Debt Total Falls to $9.3t: Fitch

(Bloomberg) -- Negative-yielding sovereign debt total fell to $9.3t as of Nov. 28 from $10.4t Nov. 1 following U.S. election and global bond market selloff, Fitch analysts Jonathan Boise, Robert Grossman and Justin Patrie write in note.
  • Japan still has more negative-yielding debt outstanding than all of Europe, but amount has declined dramatically recently as JGB 10Y yield above zero for first time since March
  • Negative-yielding debt outstanding has decreased in every European country since Nov. 1
  • If falling trend continues, bond investors stand to benefit as pattern of falling investment income could be halted with rising bond yields
