Nothing in BOE Minutes to Support Rate-Cut Speculation: Pantheon

(Bloomberg) -- There was nothing in BOE minutes to suggest the doves had become more strident in their views, Pantheon economist Samuel Tombs writes in client note.
  • The MPC clearly disagrees with market pricing that interest rates are more likely to fall than to rise this year and won’t reach 0.75% until 2020, reiterated that it’s “more likely than not that Bank Rate will need to increase over the forecast period”
  • Expect inflation will surprise to the upside, compelling the MPC to raise rates at least once before the end of this year
  • NOTE: BOE says Brexit may weigh on growth as MPC votes 9-0 to leave rates at 0.5%
