(Bloomberg) -- Following are forecasts for today’s U.S. economic releases as compiled by Bloomberg News:
- Housing Starts 1264k; range 1212k to 1400k (72 estimates)
- Build Permits 1268k; range 1235k to 1300k (44 estimates)
- "Housing starts could get a boost from last month’s warmer-than-usual weather, similar to the impact on construction payrolls in the February jobs report. Temperate weather favored an early start to hiring in outdoor-employment sectors, such as construction. Absences from work due to bad weather, as well as weather-related curtailments of average weekly hours, were significantly below their respective historical averages": Bloomberg Intelligence
- In January, housing starts exceeded forecasts; December total was revised higher
- Initial Claims 240k; range 233k to 255k (43 estimates)
- "Employers facing increasing labor shortages and rising wage pressures could pull a growing number of the unemployed back into the workforce, thus no considerable uptick in jobless claims is likely in the near future. The recent volatility in the weekly data was likely due to difficulties in seasonally-adjusting data around holidays. The weekly swings should moderate in the coming weeks": Bloomberg Intelligence
- Claims have been below 300,000 for 105 weeks in a row, lowest in more than four decades
- Philly Fed 30; range 15 to 41.2 (43 estimates)
