Brazil Meirelles’s Presidential Run Seen Gaining Momentum: MCM
(Bloomberg) -- While a possible candidacy of former president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is weakening, Finance Minister Henrique Meirelles’s chances are improving, says MCM Consultores Associados in note.
- I’t doesn’t look like a coincidence that news of Meirelles’s electoral ambition arises a few days after Lula’s candidacy was damaged by a testimony from Brazil’s former finance minister Antonio Palocci
- If Meirelles intends to be competitive, he will need to win over at least part of Lula’s supporters
- Lula’s possible absence in 2018 ballot may increase the number of candidates, fragmenting the presidential race
