U.S. Freezes Assets of Mexico-Based Ruelas Torres Organization
(Bloomberg) -- The U.S. Treasury Department labels the so-called Ruelas Torres Drug Trafficking Organization of Mexico as a “significant” narcotics trafficker, and is freezing its accused members’ assets, the department says in a statement.
- Treasury accuses the organization of manufacturing and distributing heroin, as well as laundering the proceeds from the U.S. to Mexico
- Jose Luis Ruelas Torres and his organization “are major contributors to our nation’s heroin epidemic,” Secretary Steven Mnuchin says in the statement
- “This action will hinder its ability to move and use the illicit proceeds from this activity,” Mnuchin says
