Duterte Warns Central Bank Anew: Cooperate on Drug Probe or Else
(Bloomberg) -- Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas and Anti-Money Laundering Council must cooperate with government’s probe on illegal drugs, President Rodrigo Duterte says at televised speech, critizing agencies for submitting requested report only after he publicly admonished them on Nov. 14.
- “If you cannot do your job, get out of that office. I will bring you down,” he says, adding that these agencies “are not supposed to engage in politics”
- “Tetangco is about to retire,” he says, referring to Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Governor Amando Tetangco whose term ends in July; Duterte warned agencies to “better prepare there, I’ll give you a whack”
- Bangko Sentral’s corporate affairs department declined to comment on Duterte’s remarks
